Williamsburg County DSS Office
Lily Pad #42: April 2026
Williamsburg County, SC
Williamsburg County is located in the PeeDee Region of South Carolina. It is in the eastern part of the state and borders Florence County to the south. It is home to the Black River and is known for the town of Kingstree, which serves as the county seat and reflects the rich culture of the region.
Our team set out for Williamsburg and arrived after the room had been cleared out and the contractor had completed painting the walls, except for the sunshine and chalkboard house that we personally custom paint. We made sure this space meets both emotional and physical needs - a pull out sofa bed for rest at any hour, a washable rug and versatile desk for homework, meals, coloring or a workspace for DSS professionals.
We also updated the visitation room in the office using repurposed pieces, including rugs, a loveseat and club chairs, giving new life to what we already had to work with. The space now features an activity wall where kids can move, play and express themselves - whether that’s shooting a basketball, building with Legos on the wall or creating something on the chalkboard. Our heart is to create a space that families can use to connect with each other during scheduled visits. The room also has toys, books, ambient lighting and a chalkboard for kids to use while using the room.
These rooms were designed to ensure every child that enters it feels safe and supported. By including items like sensory toys, books, blankets, electronics, art supplies, and soft lighting, we’ve created a space where children can feel loved and not further traumatized during their time in the office.
These refreshed spaces provide dignity, comfort, and calm for children experiencing one of the most uncertain moments of their lives. .
No child should spend their hardest day in a cold office. See how Lily Pad is changing that.
