Georgetown County DSS Office

June 2026 | Georgetown County, South Carolina

  • Georgetown County is located in South Carolina’s Lowcountry along the Atlantic coast. Home to the historic city of Georgetown, the area is known for its rich history, award-winning restaurants, and scenic waterfront parks.

  • Because space with the Georgetown DSS office is limited, the Lily Pad was designed to share space with the staff conference room - the room that has been serving as the office’s primary meeting space and is the only room large enough to accommodate both functions. This practical approach, similar to one used in Greenwood County, allowed us to create a welcoming, child-friendly environment while ensuring the space was still suitable for staff meetings.

  • With the support of the Georgetown County Director and Regional Director Andrea Favor, the team also identified a smaller room that can serve as a dedicated visitation or overflow space for youth and families when staff meetings are taking place in the conference room portion of the Lily Pad.

  • Before our team arrived, both rooms were professionally painted to prepare for the transformation. With a few volunteers, we then created two trauma-informed spaces: a Lily Pad room and a visitation room.

  • The Lily Pad room was designed with a sleeper sectional, chalkboard and Lego wall, room-darkening curtains, soft lighting, sensory items, electronics, and a reclining rocking chair that all work together to create a calming, trauma-informed environment where children can rest, play and feel supported. Like every Lily Pad, this room also has Scripture displayed to speak truth and encouragement to all who use it.

  • The visitation room was designed create connection between family members during visits in a warmer, more comfortable setting. It also functions as an overflow room when the Lily Pad is needed for staff as a conference room. We added comfortable seating, books, child-friendly activities, and soft lighting to help the room feel less like an office and more like a living room.

  • Both spaces now include many of the features found throughout Lily Pad rooms, including sensory toys, books, blankets, drawing supplies, ambient lighting, comfortable seating, and activity walls. Together, these updates help create a softer, more home-like environment for children and DSS professionals using the space.
