Marion County DSS Office

Marion County, SC

• Marion County is located in the PeeDee Region of South Carolina, just south of Dillon County and about 30 minutes from the North Carolina border. Because the DSS offices in Marion and Dillon Counties are only about 30 minutes away from each other, our team was able to complete Lily Pad installations in both offices during the same weekend.

• We were blessed to have a group of volunteers from Bob Jones University make the drive to Marion to help unbox items, assemble furniture, and support installation - an incredible help since were completing both a Lily Pad room and a large visitation room.

• Additional volunteers from Heritage Bible Church joined us, one of which handcrafted the play house that is featured in the visitation room.

• During the project, we also had the opportunity to meet and work alongside local community members, building new relationships as they helped bring the rooms to life.

• To steward resources well, we outfitted the spacious visitation room use a rug, sofa and serveral additional items pulled from our storage, giving the room a warm and inviting feel.

• Both rooms now feature a washable rug, fold out sofa bed, and all the standard Lily Pad comforts - sensory toys, books, blankets, electronics, art supplies, and soft lighting - to create a space where children can feel safe, supported and not further traumatized during their time in the office.

• These refreshed spaces provide dignity, comfort, and calm for children experiencing one of the most uncertain moments of their lives.
