Marlboro County is located in the Pee Dee Region of northeastern South Carolina, bordering North Carolina and neighboring Chesterfield County. In fact, our team was able to visit the Chesterfield Lily Pad on the way to Marlboro County and give it a quick refresh.
Before the Lily Pad installation, the county removed old carpet and installed luxury vinyl plank flooring, as well as cleared out electrical cables and a server box to transform the space from a technical office into a warm, welcoming environment. We’re deeply grateful for their partnership and the care they took to help create a cozy space for vulnerable youth.
Pastor Rusty and Mark Schowalter, dedicated volunteers from St. Luke Lutheran Church in Florence County, joined us once again to assist with the Marlboro installation. Having previously helped with Lily Pad spaces in Florence, Darlington, and Lee counties, their continued partnership means so much. Mark even arrived ahead of our team to begin assembling furniture—a true testament to their servant hearts. We are so grateful that our paths crossed in Florence and for the lasting relationships we’ve built with people across the state who share our passion for caring for children in foster care.
The Marlboro Lily Pad room was thoughtfully designed for both comfort and fun. With ample storage for bed linens, cleaning supplies, and extra items, it’s as practical as it is inviting. The cozy leather sofa—both wipeable and convertible to a queen bed—adds a homey touch. Kids can enjoy plenty of activities with books, coloring supplies, LEGO & chalkboard activity walls, movies, and Nintendo Switch games. Sensory supports like weighted blankets, sensory toys, and a reclining glider provide calm and comfort. We pray that every child who spends time here feels the love and care poured into creating this space.
