House of Providence Lily Pad

The Hope Center

May 2026 | Oakland County, Michigan

House of Providence

  • Our team partnered with House of Providence to create a calming, living room-like environment inside the organization’s Hope Center for children and families involved in foster care services.

  • This installation marks a major milestone for Lily Pad as our first space outside of South Carolina and our first partnership within a private foster care agency.

  • Oakland County is located in southeastern Michigan, just north of Detroit, and is known for its vibrant communities, beautiful parks, and strong network of family and community organizations.

A Soft Place to Land

  • This “connect room” was designed to provide dignity, comfort, and calm for children and families spending time together at the Hope Center. With soft comfortable seating, sensory tools, books, and other comforting elements, the space helps families feel more connected during difficult transitions.

  • We designed the room to support both emotional connection and physical comfort. The space includes a washable rug, Lego activity wall, board games, toys, ambient lighting, sensory tools, blankets, books, storage, and art supplies. Each element was intentionally chosen to encourage interaction, play, and connection during family visits.

  • A special addition to this space is the children’s book One Day at a Time written by Michigan registered nurse and children’s author Maria Roy, who works with House of Providence. The story follows a young girl named Lily as she navigates big feelings while experiencing foster care and helps children feel seen and supported during moments of change. The connection felt fitting since Lily Pad was named after a little girl named Lily who was part of the Tice family’s foster care journey.

Our First Lily Pad in Michigan

  • This room holds personal significance for Lily Pad, as Co-Founder Jennifer Tice and Creative Director Cara Grubb both have roots in Michigan. We are thankful to partner with organizations like House of Providence that share our heart for creating spaces where children feel cared for.

  • A ribbon cutting ceremony brought together House of Providence leadership, Lily Pad leadership, and community partners who helped bring this Michigan installation to life. This project was made possible through the generosity of a longtime Lily Pad donor along with local volunteers and partners supporting children and families experiencing crisis.
